Book Review: “All Hallows Moon” by S.M. Reine

allhallowsmooncoverAll Hallows Moon by S.M. Reine
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Yet another super entertaining read, courtesy of SM Reine! This story’s really just what a reader needs to help them believe in light and love again, lol. It’s refreshing, interesting, and the love story is cute. It’s a pretty cool sequel to the original story and builds on the cliffhanger from “Six Moon Summer” very nicely! The only thing I hoped for was Rylie to be a *little* more proactive regarding the hunters trying to kill her, BUT I also appreciate how real her actions felt.

Scared, alone, isolated, and monstrous… with hunters wanting to kill you at every turn. I mean, who could honestly be supergirl in her circumstances? I am interested in a couple of throwaway characters– two psychiatrists– that popped up towards the end though. I have a feeling they’ll be making another appearance in the next sequel!

I hope the future novels in this series will have a bit more of a dramatic edge to them, but they’re great as they are too. I like light and adorable just fine!

Book Review: “Six Moon Summer” by S.M. Reine

sixmoonsummercoverSix Moon Summer by S.M. Reine
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

For the first few chapters, I was a little bored with the premise. Lol, like, “oh brother, here’s yet another tragically beautiful, thrown-int0-a-new-world misfit.” And I bucked a bit, not really feeling connected with Rylie’s somewhat aloof and stuffy character.

At FIRST. But hang in there. The book is a quick read, and everything picks up considerably, including the overarching mystery.

As Rylie begins to explore the mysteries of Camp Silver Lake and the mysterious werewolves in it, I got completely HOOKED. I love the way the story progressed, and the way the tension increased with every chapter. I also really enjoyed Seth & Rylie’s growing rapport, and the way the conflict between them ramped up with a sudden and surprising reveal. The descriptions of the werewolf transformation, the progression, and the lore were also fantastic. I love how Reine freshens up the genre with her personal take!

I love SM Reine’s work in general, and I came into her worlds through books she wrote later. But as her debut novel, “Six Moon Summer” was an amazing, super solid intro to what Reine can really do with well-known werewolf lore. The best part is that while the ending is satisfying and complete, it isn’t exactly “clean”, in that everything is perfectly tied up. There are some cliffhangers, and I DEFINITELY want to read the next book in the series to see what happens next!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, especially if you’re looking for a light entertaining read with plenty of action, character growth, tension, and romance… and did I say ACTION? (The action kicked all sorts of ass.)

About Everlasting

EverlastingAfter another incident of sleepwalking, Aiyana Gamelle wakes up lying under the stars on the Beach of Sa’Fyre Island, an island off the cost of South Carolina with a rich Gullah and Native American history.

Knowing these incidents of sleepwalking have something to do with her long awaited transition into queen of the island, Aiyana shrugs them off as little more than a nuisance to be expected since her lineage leads to a mysterious African goddess.

Aiyana moves forward with plans to host a week long festival that will end with her succession to the island throne, but the murder of an important guest and the passing of her grandmother bring the festivities to a screeching halt.   Aiyana learns that the transition involves an unwanted possession and the revelation of a dark family curse.

American Specter

americanspecterrasheedahprioleauAudra Wheeler has been haunted for the last thirteen years by a paranormal attack that left her sister, Kendra, in a coma.  Mentored by FBI Assistant Director Jonathan Cordero to investigate specter crimes, Audra believes she’s on the trail of a serial killing specter with a mode of operation much like her sister’s attacker. The trail leads her to a small town in Georgia called Specter.  Specter has become a haven to ghosts who have crossed back over and exist among the living.  For better or worse she also finds herself working with the town’s Sheriff, Ethan Cole, her ex-partner and old flame.

With a chip on her shoulder and a strong dislike of specters, Agent Wheeler has a hard time adjusting to the ever-present state of specters until the latest victim, Gwyneth Miller, comes back as one.

When specter Gwyneth Miller is adamant that it was not a specter that killed her, Audra Wheeler finds herself opening up the twenty-five year old cold case of the town’s most notorious unsolved homicide, the murder of Abigail Stevens, who just happens to be Gwyneth Miller’s biological mother.

This cold case takes Audra to every corner of the town from the poor trailers where Abigail grew up, to the mansion of the richest family in town, the Shelleys.  With a town stuck on not wanting to know what really happened, Audra relies on specters to uncover the truth that involves the secrets and lies of the Shelleys.

Horror Hop Day #7: Have an Inside Look at What It’s Like to Be a Witch!

WW 1Hello, my Fantasy Fiends!

I hope you’ve been enjoying the sneak previews of S.M. Blooding’s urban fantasy and paranormal thriller works! I know I definitely have!

(And don’t forget to enter the sexy giveaway, where you have a chance to win a $25 gift card from Amazon!)

giveaway! As this week’s features come to a close, I’ve asked S.M. Blooding to share a very special guest post with us. As you can see, she lives my dream life (dating vampires, werewolves, and assassins? Oh, MY!), but she also practices witchcraft herself as a Wicca.

She gives you a first-hand look at what it’s like to be a witch, and she also debunks some pervasive myths about the craft as well. Keep reading to get an inside look at The Inner Workings of the craft; you’ll see it’s as much about performing magic on the inside as much as it is about magic on the outside.  🙂

The Inner Workings of Living Witchcraft, by S.M. Blooding

What Wicca Is… and Isn’t

Witchcraft, at least most of it that I do, is just everyday, benign stuff. I keep the scents in my home “grounding” scents like sandlewood, Jupiter, jasmine, etc. I hang brooms over my doors. I set wards around my home. I read tarot . . . when I wiccasymbolremember, or when the cards are screaming at me. I make mojo bags. I do keep voodoo dolls and name them.

But *shrug* I don’t have my tarot deck memorized. When I cast, wind doesn’t whip around the apartment. I can’t call a flame onto the candle wick. I can’t boil water with my thoughts.

Wicca and witchcraft, for me, is more about finding the balance in life. When I cast, it has less to do with the herbs and the elements and the colors and the materials, and a lot more to do with what’s in my heart and what my mind’s mouth is saying.

wiccanaltarThe materials you gather are to assist you in gathering your intent, cementing it into place so that when you do cast your spell, there’s not flip-flopping around. Your will is strong, it’s focused with clear intent, and, even if you’re not being one hundred percent nice, you’re at the very least being honest.

Wicca, The All Mother, and Dark Times

allmothermoongoddessI have a direct connection to what I call the All Mother. She’s not always nice. A lot of people ask me why I would choose a deity who isn’t nice. It’s because I don’t need her to be nice to me. When I seek her out, it’s because I need to grow, I need to learn. The All Mother doesn’t pull any punches.

Like the time I turned my oldest daughter’s sperm donor into a toad. The idea was to show the world and all womankind what a toad he was. I proclaimed I was helping the world. I was saving women’s hearts all over. And that’s what I told the All Mother when I cast the spell.

Selene-Greek-GoddessmoonShe saw right through me. She heard the tears, felt the anger, and knew I was casting the spell out of revenge.

Instead of being nice and letting the spell go, she slapped me in the face, pulled my head out of my butt, and sent the spell back on me threefold.

It was a really rough year, and I discovered I wasn’t nearly as awesome as I’d thought. I had some growing up to do myself.

The All Mother knows me intimately as well. She knows all my darkest secrets. She also knows that the good I do is from the heart.

Most of the time, though, She just doesn’t care. She’s got a lot of things going on, and the only thing she needs me to do is to remain responsible for my own life. She’ll help if I ask. If I lie to her about my intent, she’ll give me what I need, not what I want.

Making Life Magickal

beautiful-lifeMy best spells don’t have a chant. They’re an open conversation with the All Mother. We have an open dialogue and She helps me guide my will where it’s needed, and where I can best apply it.

Most “magick” is done by the sweat of hard work. A spell mostly sets the will so you are empowered to make yourself conquer whatever task. Those are the best spells, anyway.

So, the inner workings of Wicca and witchcraft? That’s it for me. I love it.

Don’t forget to check out “Whiskey Witches”, on Amazon NOW!
